Tod’s Driving Shoes Can Now Be Customized to All Your Rich

There is no shoe more associated with rich guys doing rich-guy things (driving rare cars, boarding big yachts, strolling) than Tod's’ Gommino driving shoes. First introduced in 1970, the rubber-grommet-sole shoes were invented for men to wear in their Italian roadsters, but crossed over into the mainstream when the rich guys who owned them realized they also looked damn fine with chinos, trousers, or even a suit. Fast-forward almost 50 years, and Tod's driving shoes continue to be an off-duty staple of Italian peacocks and wealthy gentlemen the world over. Now the brand is expanding its reach to style-obsessed millennials, too, with a new personalization program called MyGommino that lets you custom design a pair of mocs from start to finish online and pick them up in any Tod's store (or simply go there from the get-go). Think of it like Nike I.D. for really expensive, swaggy dress shoes. Prices start at $510 and go up to $6,500 for the exotic stuff. (Hey, if Gucci can do it...)

Truth be told, as much as millennials are known for loving personalization (check), authenticity (check), and nifty marketing (check), we'd venture a guess that the bulk of the MyGommino customers will fall into two camps: Driving mac diehards who already own all the basic colors and guys who are really, really particular about their style investments. That's because not only are these shoes hand-crafted in Italy, but the customization platform lets you choose every last detail to your specifications. We're talking about the difference between black, dark gray, or light gray stitching and whether you want a monogram positioned on the front, back, side, or inside of the shoes. It is wonderfully specific.

Here are a few customization options we like. Yes, the brand also offers flashier colors, stitching, and grommets, but remember: Just because you can doesn't mean you should.
