The coolers are based on existing NH-U14S and NH-D9 DX-4677 coolers designed for the existing HEDT (high-end desktop) platforms from AMD and Intel. However, the socket support has changed and it will now accommodate future undiclosed designs.

Noctua did not confirm which socket will AMD use for "Next-gen AMD Threadripper" as it was listed on a spec list. However, Tom's Hardware were quick to measure the CPU cold plate, and it appears to match the AMD SP6 design, which is 58.5×75.4 mm big.

The SP6 socket also known as LGA-4844 is rumored to power some Threadripper SKUs codenamed "Storm Peak" based on Zen4 architecture. There are rumors that AMD may also adopt the SP5 socket for more powerful Threadripper CPUs, but this has not been confirmed yet.

Noctua is not the first company to announce coolers for AMD SP5 socket. EK have already announced their liquid-cooling blocks for what they described as Genoa SP5 CPUs, as socket will also be used by data-center CPUs.

Noctua expects their coolers to be available in October this year, while AMD Storm Peak is expected in the second half of this year. AMD is yet to confirm release timing for its future Threadripper CPUs.
