Trelleborg is a world leader in providing solutions for marine machinery and vessels of every type, specifically the design and manufacture of rubber-to-metal bonded products and assemblies to attenuate noise, shock and vibration. These are specified by major manufacturers around the world for propulsion engines, generator sets and service machinery.
Wherever they are used, Trelleborg components contribute to the comfort and safety of passengers, and the quiet, efficient operation of machinery.
Under the Metalastik® brand name, Trelleborg offers a comprehensive range of rubber / metal-bonded flexible mountings and anti-vibration components for every application. The range includes the D and Super D series as well as large rectangular mountings, Cushymount K, Cushymount Mini-K and Cushyfloat mountings all designed to meet the highest standards of reliability, acoustic efficiency and shock protection in accordance with QS 9001, Lloyds, Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and other authorities.
Among recent innovations, the Metalastik DX mount combines an innovative, modular design approach with increased shock displacement capacity – up to 100mm. Another highlight is the Super U mount of up to 22t capacity, which is widely used under large machinery rafts.
Metalastik marine mountings are used in naval, merchant marine and leisure vessels, cruise liners and fast ferries, luxury and light craft. They are specified for primary propulsion and auxiliary engines as well as for ancillary duties, such as mounting reduction gears, pipework, ventilation, compressors, pumps, sewage treatment units, refrigeration units and even sound systems.
The company offers exceptional expertise in the field of marinised generator sets. Applications range from the largest machinery rafts and custom-designed offshore installations, right down to instrument panels.
Trelleborg Industrial AVS also offers unsurpassed experience in shock attenuation and vibration isolation for naval and coastguard applications. This ranges from pilot vessels and assault craft to helicarriers, supply ships and hydrographic / research vessels to the specialist and anti-magnetic technologies required in mine-hunting, nuclear submarines and modern frigates. At the top end of the scale, Metalastik mounts are specified on the latest UK Astute class submarines, as well as the flagship French nuclear aircraft carrier.
In addition to its wide range of marine-specific products, Trelleborg offers a unique reservoir of elastomer expertise and what is probably the most extensive catalogue of rubber formulations in the industry.
This and the experience embodied in our expert teams of development and applications engineers is the key to Trelleborg's marine offering. It is a combination of design skills and manufacturing excellence that ensures Trelleborg Metalastik products not only work first time, out of the box but also offer long, trouble-free service and proven whole-life cost benefits.
The company's headquarters are located in its state-of-the-art plant in Leicester, UK, which also houses the core technical resource and its research and development unit. Production is divided between Leicester, Carmi in the USA, Delhi in India and Wuxi, in China, where there is also a highly developed engineering and sales support team.
The Trelleborg strategy is to make the company's technology available on a local basis in all the world's major marine markets. This is achieved through technical innovation, a cross-disciplinary sales organisation with dedicated engineering back-up and, thirdly, local manufacturing, particularly in Far Eastern markets to achieve a high level of local content.
After trouble-free service of 13 years, the New Zealand Navy has asked Trelleborg Industrial AVS to supply a new set of Metalastik® engine mounts for its Anzac Class frigates, to replace the mounts the company originally delivered to Tenix Defence Systems (now BAE) in 1993. The bearings have
