Tribit’s StormBox Pro Brings Bags Of Bass To Pool Parties And Picnics

Oct 30, 2023

The Tribit StormBox Pro is water resistant and has a muscular 24 hour battery that can out-party ... [+] almost anyone.

Tribit is a name that's probably unknown to most people. Compared with JBL, it's just another audio brand in a market that's groaning with new products. However, I’ve reviewed quite a few Tribit products recently and been reasonably impressed because the company's engineers tend to choose high-quality chipsets and components that add up to a great sound.

The latest device to come from Tribit is the StormBox Pro, a powerful portable Bluetooth speaker that's designed for taking on a picnic, boating on a lake or lazing on the beach. Featuring a single subwoofer and two mid-high frequency drivers, this 2.1 speaker is both portable and powerful… very powerful.

Thanks to the inclusion of a Qualcomm chipset and AKM7755 digital signal processor, the StormBox Pro can deliver a wide spectrum of sound. It's this combination of a high-quality sound underpinned by a thumping bass produced by Tribit's XBass technology that amplifies the bass frequencies. The full-bodied sound makes the StormBox Pro ideal for playing music at parties and outdoor events.

Two Tribit StormBox Pro speakers can be paired together in stereo party mode.

The StormBox Pro supports Qualcomm's aptX. The higher quality codec also provides low-latency wireless performance that makes it ideal for boosting the audio from video soundtracks. Multiple devices can also be paired with the StormBox Pro using its multi-point functionality.

Physically, the Tribit StormBox Pro is about the same size as an upturned pint beer glass. On its top are a multifunction cluster of three buttons. The controls can alter volume, skip and repeat tracks, as well as pause and play the music. There's also buttons for Power, Bluetooth pairing and turning the XBass function on and off. The build quality of the StormBox Pro is solid and there's a heft to it that makes it feel like a high-quality piece of kit. the comfy loop handle is also ideal for taking the speaker for a walk or simply carrying it around the home.

At the base of the speaker there's a waterproof rubber grommet that opens to reveal a USB-C charging port for recharging the StormBox Pro's internal lithium-ion battery. Next to the charging point there's a USB-A power port so that the StormBox Pro can be used as a power bank to recharge a smartphone.

In line with its rugged design for outdoor use, the StormBox Pro is waterproof to IPX67 standard, which means a dip in the pool won't do it any harm. Swimming with this speaker is not recommended but, if it were to happen, then it wouldn't be the end of the world. Just dry it off in the sun.

For those who enjoy partying, the StormBox Pro will stay the course thanks to a battery life of up to 24 hours. The 10,000mAh battery should be able to outlast even the most exuberant party animals. The StormBox Pro can also be paired with a second StormBox Pro to produce a full stereo effect or to fill a larger space by mirroring the sound of the primary speaker.

Verdict: I’ve had a chance to listen to the Tribit StormBox Pro and it's loud and clear. If you need a speaker with sufficient volume to fill a medium-size room or blast out over a backyard pool, then the StormBox Pro is the ideal choice. It pumps out plenty of volume and with fairly low levels of distortion. I can imagine that two StormBox Pro's set to Stereo mode and placed on either side of a TV would make for a good stand-in as a soundbar. There's no voice-assistant function with the StormBox Pro, but not everyone wants Alexa eavesdropping on their musical choices.
